Anything that can help with perimenopause symptoms, hey, we're all for it!  We absolutely love turmeric for its peri-symptom-fighting properties; so much we even included it in our Peri Chai Latte blend.

Let's find out how turmeric can be a powerful weapon against your peri symptoms.

Turmeric: quick facts

Turmeric is a member of the Zingiberaceae or ginger family which consists of 56 groups and about 1,300 species of plants including types of ginger, turmeric and cardamom.

Turmeric is native to tropical South Asia (and actually grows really well here in Australia!).

How does turmeric help with peri symptoms?

Turmeric reduces inflammation so with our peri bodies in a pro-inflammatory state, this is a key factor to manage any symptoms associated with inflammation.

The Curcumin in Turmeric is a natural powerhouse anti-inflammatory plant compound.

Being in a pro-inflammatory state means that your body is constantly trying to fight off infection. That’s why many perimenopausal women report painful or stiff joints.  Ouch!

If inflammation isn't dealt with, over years it can cause:

  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Arthritis.

Does turmeric increase oestrogen levels?

No. Studies show that Curcumin controls oestrogen levels.

How much turmeric is good in perimenopause?

The beneficial effects of turmeric are traditionally achieved through dietary consumption, even at low levels, over long periods of time.

The functions of turmeric include:

  • Antibacterial
  • Antiviral
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antitumor
  • Antioxidant
  • Antiseptic
  • Cardioprotective
  • Hepatoprotective
  • Nephroprotective
  • Radioprotective
  • and great for your digestion.

Plant chemical analysis of turmeric has revealed a large number of compounds, including curcumin, volatile oil, and curcuminoids, which have been found to have potent pharmacological properties.

High levels of turmeric can be taken as pain relief for inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis and a good substitute for non medication days.
